Carla Soraide

Administrative Director

Carla Soraide (She/Her) Born and raised in New York, and a very proud Queens Latina, Carla is a second-generation Argentinean immigrant. In her childhood she went to school on the Upper East Side but moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina to complete her high school education.

After 4 long years away she returned, yearning for her beloved New York. She went to college just a short walk away from Circle, at CUNY- John Jay College of Criminal Justice, earning a Bachelor of the Arts in Political Science with a concentration in Public Law. Somehow with an excess of electives to complete she chose two elective courses that changed everything; ‘Latinos in Theatre’ and ‘Introduction to Drama,’ and suddenly all the plans for law school went out the window.

Shortly after graduation she became a Certified Legal interpreter and Medical Interpreter, and worked freelance for NYC Courts, NYC Health & Hospitals Corporation, Social Security Administration, and the Department of Education. Alongside her freelance work she became a Certified Paralegal and worked at a local Jackson Heights business services office, providing both office administration and assisting legal counsel in immigration and landlord and tenant law. With those newfound tools, she was addressing the needs of language empowerment and barriers that existed within her community utilizing the gift of being academically bilingual (a gift she will forever thank her determined mother for).

That need to serve and longing for change led her to Advent, a very openly LGBTQIA+ supporting church with a committed mission to food insecurity on the Upper West Side. There she took on the role of Administrative Assistant and shortly became Director of Administration & Finance. In 5 years, Advent provided her with both the personal and professional growth she needed to find her place in serving as a cross between diversity, tenacity, and love for a community.

That love is one that is tough, but genuine; and that is what she hopes to bring each student that walks into the office at Circle.
