TRAINING PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

Midsummer Night's Dream
William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night , with acting students directed by Edward Berkeley

PROFESSIONAL ACTOR TRAINING PROGRAMS
Circle in the Square Theatre School's primary objective is to train actors and singers for work in professional theatre, film and television with traditional and experimental approaches to dramatic presentation. Our programs provide individual attention in small classes, with a faculty composed of the finest actors, directors and master teachers available in the New York theatre. The program is designed and structured to help each student develop technique and style, with primary emphasis on the development of both intellectual and physical aspects, so that the actor can achieve a successful interpretation of a role and work effectively as an ensemble member. Upon completion of the program, you will have the range and ability to perform varied styles so your talents can be drawn upon to support the outstanding tradition of performance for which both Circle in the Square Theatre and the Theatre School are renowned.

We believe strongly in an eclectic curriculum in order to expose the students to various acting styles and different viewpoints. The vision and concept of each program’s tonality and structural whole are vitally important and have been developed by a combined effort of faculty, administration and advisors. Students must be highly motivated and prepared to make a full commitment to the demands this concept requires.

NOTE: It is Circle's mission to train actors to compete in the professional industries of theatre, film, and television. Circle does not find employment for its' graduates, however, a list of notable alumni and news of working alumni are available on the Alumni Page.

Arts Education Trainees and their Students

COMMUNITY OUTREACH: Our community outreach efforts include our Arts Education for Actors, which provides an opportunity for select graduates to train to become teaching artsts. During their training CITS Theatre School provides a stipend. After they have completed the program, they are then certified as teaching artists and will be eligible to receive income as such. This program, available to our recent graduates, is designed to create new teaching artists for the field of arts education.

We also conduct long-term artist residencies partnered with a New York City public school each year to teach theatre through curriculum-related, hands-on activities. This program is specifically designed to expand the New York Public School students' literary and theatrical knowledge, while also providing students with new creative outlets and inspiration.
