Applicants are required to submit an application and application fee, a headshot or clear photograph, resume, and two letters of recommendation preferably from people familiar with your acting or singing abilities. Upon receiving these, you will be scheduled for an audition and interview. A decision on your application can only be made after all these steps are completed.
Applicants to the Two Year Professional Workshop Programs must have earned a high school diploma or its equivalent. .
Applicants to the Summer Workshops must be at least 15 years old. Summer students usually range in age from 18-50.
All applicants are measured by professional standards of talent, experience and potential.
All applicants will be notified through the mail regarding admission to the programs. We do not provide audition evaluations or personalized feedback for applicants.
All U.S. applicants must pay a $40 application fee which can be paid by cash, check, money order, Master Card, or Visa. This should be paid in advance of your audition with your application. All International students must submit their application fee $50.00 U.S. dollars either by postal money order, check or Pay Pal. All checks must be drawn on a bank with a New York / U.S. affiliate. All checks and money orders must be in U.S. Dollars ($).
International Students ONLY:
You may pay your $50 application fee through PayPal
*Student Visas (I-20) are provided for all International students after they have been accepted into the program. Once you have been accepted and returned contracts with payment, you must call the school and ask for David. He will give you all the information about filling out the the I-20 visa form.
Anyone unable to make one of the above dates but who will be in New York another time, individual auditions can be arranged at the Theatre School. Auditions must be scheduled for Monday through Friday, generally between the hours of 10am and 5pm. Weekend dates are not available for consideration. Email or call when you know the exact date you will be in New York and available to audition.
All New York auditions take place at the Circle in the Square Theatre School, located on 50th Street (between Broadway and 8th Avenue). Locations for regional auditions will be announced to those applicants when we have received their application and scheduled their audition.
Video Auditions (YouTube or dvd):
Video auditions are only allowed for the Summer Acting Workshop and the Summer Musical Workshop. For the Professional Workshops, you must audition in person. You may send a dvd or email us a link to you audition on YouTube (www.YouTube.com). YouTube is the preferred method since DVD's are sometimes troublesome in certain computers.
Video auditions must follow the same criteria as mentioned above .
All video auditions must be clear to view and easy to hear. Please choose a place to film where there is good lighting and little ambient noise. Also, please choose a location where the background is not distracting.
Please be sure to send the following information in the email with your YouTube links (or in the packet accompanying your dvd):
The name of the play, playwright, character for each of your monologues
If you are singing, please give the name of the song and the musical it is from.
Please mention whether you've already submitted your application or whether we should expect it soon. We will not view your video audition until we have the completed application and application fee.
How to create and share an unlisted (private) video audition on YouTube:
Click on your account name located in the top right of any page.
Click on My Videos from the expanded menu.
Choose the video you want to edit and click the Edit button below the video thumbnail.
Scroll down to the Broadcasting and Sharing Options and find the Privacy section.You'll see the option to make the video Public, Unlisted, or Private. Select Unlisted.
Make sure to click the Save Changes button at the bottom of the page.
Once you’ve set your video as unlisted in your Account settings, you’re ready to share your video. In order to share your video, just send the video’s URL to the people with whom you’d like to have access to the video. They’ll then be able to view the video.
