ALUMNI NEWS

We are pleased to announce that two of our alumni, Walker Hare and Kane Presentback, have been selected to take part in the TS Eliot US/UK Exchange, May 22-30, 2010, a program developed by The Old Vic Theatre to nurture the best young British and American theatre practitioners. Throughout the week-long exchange, the artists will participate in a challenging mix of masterclasses, networking opportunities, rehearsals, meetings with senior industry representatives and theatre trips, as well as the opportunity to create new work with their peers. The program is supported by the T.S. Eliot Estate.

LAByrinth Theater Company, headed by Circle in the Square Theatre School graduate Philip Seymour Hoffman, recently celebrated the legendary playwright Tennessee Williams with “TENN 99”, a one-of-a-kind, a nonstop, 24/7 marathon three-day weekend event, March 26-29, 2010, a celebration of the works of Tennessee Williams. In service to the community, LAByrinth Theater Company endeavored to do as many readings of Tennessee Williams' work as possible – back to back, from start to finish – on the occasion of his 99th birthday; including plays, screenplays, adaptations, essays, personal letters and interviews.

Participants included: Leslie Bibb, Ellen Burstyn, Bobby Cannavale, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jesse L. Martin, Ana Ortiz, Sam Rockwell, John Patrick Shanley, Michael Shannon, Michael Stuhlbarg, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Eli Wallach, and Yul Vázquez. Circle in the Square Theatre School faculty member, Alan Langdon read the role of D.H. Lawrence in "I Rise in Flame Cried the Phoenix". Bob Kruse, Lydia Medeiros, Jeff Todesco, and Aaron Weiner, all Circle alumni, also participated.

Several of our alumni, Anne Dyas ('04), Blair Taylor ('06), and Steve Trzaska ('06), have been working regularly at the Metropolitan Opera through B.H. Barry.

JEFF BERG – Played the titular role in the New York International Fringe Festival production of I WAS TOM CRUISE. Jeff can also be seen as Luke in the beloved SLINGS AND ARROWS, finally available on DVD.

JOHN BOLGER – After a short return to GENERAL HOSPITAL and Port Charles as Mayor Floyd, John is on the National Tour of Dirty Dancing playing Dr. Houseman (Baby's father).
RACHEL BROADWELL – Has been cast in the national tour of ANNIE with NETworks. She will be on tour for the next year. Congrats, Rachel!
GREG BRYK – Winner of the Vancouver Film Critics Circle Award for Best Supporting Actor for his work in POOR BOY'S GAME with Danny Glover, Greg Bryk also starred as Peter Fonda's son in the mini-series THE GATHERING. He is currently shooting the horror film SCREAMERS 2 in Newfoundland.
KEVIN CAHOON – Delighted as the Child Catcher in CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG and originated the role of George in the Broadway musical THE WEDDING SINGER. Kevin's band, Ghetto Cowboy, has released their latest CD, DOLL, available now in stores.
MATT CAMPBELL – Was in the Goodspeed Opera House production of Gilbert and Sullivan's THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE.
SARAH CLARKE – Everybody's favorite "24" gal, played Christine Chambers in the series finale of "Commander in Chief." Sarah can also be seen in her latest film, THE LATHER EFFECT, which premiered recently at the LA Film Festival.
LINDSAY DEVINO – Is currently on the National Tour of THE DROWSY CHAPERONE with NETworks.
RAINBOW DICKERSON – Recently understudied the role of "Johnna" in AUGUST OSAGE COUNTY. We are so proud of you Rainbow!

JAMES DICKSON – Was the standby for the role of "The Fonz" in the new musical, HAPPY DAYS, based on the popular television show. The show was written and directed by series creator, Garry Marshall, with music and lyrics by Paul Williams.
LAUREN ELDER – Is in HAIR on Broadway.
MICHAEL ELLISON – Was seen in a sweeps week episode of LAW AND ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT. The episode was ripped from the headlines about the death of Anna Nicole Smith. Michael played a character based on Anna Nicole's son, Daniel, opposite Kristy Swanson.
CLAIRE EPSTEINwww.claireepsteinactor.com – Is finishing up a run of MEASURE FOR MEASURE at the Secret Theatre as Isabella, and from April 14th to the 24th, 2010 she'll be playing Estelle in NO EXIT at 13th Street Repertory Theatre
KEN FANTRY – Was cast in TheatreWorksUSA's touring production of HENRY AND MUDGE.

JENNIFER GAMBATESE – Recently starred as Jane in the Broadway production of Disney's TARZAN and will play the role of Mary in the upcoming production of PRAIRIE, a musical based on Little House on the Prairie at the Guthrie Theatre. Enjoy an interview with the popular "diva" by clicking here.
ITZIK GIULIwww.yasmeengodder.com – Was Artistic Consultant and Dramturge for Yasmeen Godder's dance theatre piece "Strawberry Cream and Gun Powder" presented with The Bloody Bench Players at the Lincoln Center Festival.
OLIVIA GOODE – Has just finished the national tour of THE PRODUCERS. She is currently employed by Bally's Jubilee in Las Vegas.
STEPHANIE GOULD – Was recently appeared in "Monsters Inside Me" on Animal Planet, a short film called "Brooklyn Asylum", and two upcoming episodes of "Rescue Me.".
AMANDA GREEN – Keeping busy with appearances at Birdland and provided lyrics for the Broadway musical, HIGH FIDELITY, based on the Nick Hornby novel and Touchstone Pictures film.
GEORGE GRIFFITH – Was featured, along with MATTHEW LILLARD, in "FROM THE HEAD", a web series produced by Circle alum JEFFREY DOORNBOS and GEORGE GRIFFITH's production company "Alpha Rat Productions".
ALLISON GUINNwww.allisonguinn.com – Is in HAIR on Broadway.
EMILY GUNYOU HALAAS – Is in the Minnesota Fringe Festival's productions of "Strong" by Dominic Orlando July 31 - August 9, 2009. Upcoming performances include the title role in "My Name Is Rachel Corrie", taken from the writings of Rachel Corrie and edited by Alan Rickman and Katharine Viner in September 2009, and "A Christmas Carol" at The Guthrie Theatre from November 19 - December 31, 2009.
JONATHAN WALKER HARE – Was in FLANAGAN'S WAKE at the Soho Playhouse.
JENNIFER HECHT – Was recently in the new Richard Greenberg play, THE HOUSE IN TOWN, at Lincoln Center Theater. The production was directed by Doug Hughes.
ANDAYE HILL – Was nominated for a 2006 New York Innovative Theatre Award in the Best Featured Actress category.
PHILIP SEYMOUR HOFFMAN – Academy Award Winner for Best Actor, Hoffman also won the BAFTA and Golden Globe for Best Actor (Drama) for his performance as Truman Capote in CAPOTE. Recent appearances include being seen escorting Terry Hayden into a cab in Greenwich Village.
WINNIE HOLZMAN – An Emmy nominee, Winnie can be heard on the IFC's original series, HOPELESS PICTURES. Her Tony nominated libretto for WICKED is enjoyed nearly every night by thousands all over the world.
FELICITY HUFFMAN – An Emmy winner for DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, Felicity garnered rave reviews, received an Academy Award Nomination and nabbed a Golden Globe as Best Actress (Drama) for her portrayal of Sabrina "Bree" Osbourne in TRANSAMERICA.
TIM INTRAVIA – Was recently a swing in TONY N' TINA'S WEDDING. Tim was recently featured in a Backstage article about how he landed his role.
MERRITT DAVID JANES – who just wrapped up the lead in THE WEDDING SINGER national tour, is back out on the road as the lead in the national tour of Sweeney Todd.
TRISHA JEFFREY – Just finished her third Broadway show in three years, RENT, and is currently out on the National Tour of Rent starring Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal.
DENIS JONES – A continual presence on Broadway, is back in CHICAGO at the Ambassador Theatre. Denis also recently was choreographer for the Actor's Benefit productions of ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY and IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE, as well as working as Associate Choreographer on DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS.
JUSTIN KIRK – Emmy Nominee and Obie winner, starred in the new independant film FLANNEL PAJAMAS. Justin also returns for a second season as Andy Botwin on the series, WEEDS, airing on Showtime starting in August. The first season is already available on DVD.
CANDACE LARICCI – Did a TheatreWorks USA National Tour of CHARLOTTE'S WEB.
KECIA LEWIS-EVANS – Was recently on Broadway as Trix in the Tony winning THE DROWSY CHAPERONE.
MATTHEW LILLARD – Was featured, along with GEORGE GRIFFITH, in "FROM THE HEAD", a web series produced by Circle alum JEFFREY DOORNBOS and GEORGE GRIFFITH's production company "Alpha Rat Productions."

ALEC MAPA – Is currently hosting TRANSAMERICAN LOVE STORY on the LOGO Channel. It is a reality show featuring a transgender woman being courted by potential suitors. For more information on the show click here.
LUBA MASON – Dazzled as Velma Kelly on Broadway in CHICAGO once again. Her album, "Collage" is available through P.S. Classics.
KATHERINE McCLAIN – Appeared in Musicals Tonight's production of "Irene". Recently she was in their production of "Ernest in Love" as well.
LIZ MCKENDRY – Was recently a swing in the multiple Tony-winning Broadway company of THE PRODUCERS.
IDINA MENZEL – Starred in the Disney film musical ENCHANTED, scheduled for release in July 2007. Next, she brings her Tony-winning performance as Elphaba to the upcoming London production of WICKED.

ERIC WILLIAM MORRIS – Is going to be in MAMMA MIA on Broadway starting Fall of 2009.
SUMMER MOORE – Was nominated for and won a 2006 New York Innovative Theatre Award in the Best Featured Actress category.

KEN OLIN – Is not only the director of the hit television show, BROTHERS AND SISTERS, but he has also had a recurring role on the show opposite his wife, Patricia Wettig.
DAVID ORDINAS – Has returned to Spain to play the title role in BEAUTY IN THE BEAST in Madrid, which is the Spanish equivalent of Broadway. To view pictures of David as the Beast, click here.
DAVID PITTU – Was nominated for his second Tony nomination in a row. In 2008 he was nominated for LOVEMUSIK, and in 2009 he was nominated for IS HE DEAD?

KERI SEYMOUR – Landed the role of Becca in RABBIT HOLE with Center Stage Playhouse's Foster Hall.
JEREMY SHAMOS – Delighted again in the recent stage production of Ernst Lubitsch's classic film, TROUBLE IN PARADISE.
ADAM SHATARSKY – Recently wrapped the SAG Indie Film, "The Invisible Man," filmed in the subways of Washington D.C.
ANNA STEPHENS – Was recently in the European Tour of WEST SIDE STORY. Anna played Anybodys.
SARAH STEPHENS – Was seen with HEATHER ROGERS in IMMINENT, INDEED.
D.B. SWEENEY – Was in the Spike Lee film called MIRACLE AT ST. ANNA.
JUSTIN TENSEN – Had lead role in an independant film called BETWEEN LOVE AND GOODBYE.
MAURA TIERNEY – Starred in the MCC production of Neil LaBute's SOME GIRL(S) at the Lucille Lortel.

KATE WETHERHEAD – Was recently back on Broadway in LEGALLY BLONDE: THE MUSICAL at Broadway's Palace Theatre. Kate joined the show directly from the Tony Award winning THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE at Circle in the Square Theatre.
CHRISTIAN DANTE WHITE – Is currently working on the world premiere of John Kander and Fred Ebb's last collaboration, SCOTTSBORO BOYS. The production is being directed by Susan Stroman Off Broadway at The Vineyard Theater. He also recently played the Scarecrow in the City Center Encores Summer Stars production of THE WIZ, starring Ashanti
NANCI ZOPPI – Was on the National Tour of two children's shows, THE ADVENTURES OF FLAT STANLEY and FRANKLEY BEN.
MARCO ZUNINO – Played the title role in JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR in Lima, Peru. This is Lima's first professional production of the rock opera.
